Goodbye for the Summer...

The Leisure World Photography Club gathered for one last time on April 6, 2024. There was plenty of good food and drink to share. It was also fun sharing our stories and plans for the summer. It's so sad to say goodbye for the summer, but we will be back on October 12, 2024, for another amazing season! Until then, keep shooting!

LW Photography Club guest speaker LeRoy DeJolie presents one of his prints (see photo) to door prize winner Barb Trible of Manor 454 at the March 2, 2024 meeting.

Monthly Challenge Results

Many people leave Leisure World at this time of year. As we transition from "high season" to  summer break, our Monthly Challenge will also  be on break until the fall. Enjoy our special "Gone Fishin'" display for now, and we'll see you in October!

Good to Know: Photography

Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating durable images by recording light, either electronically by means of an image sensor, or chemically by means of a light-sensitive material such as photographic film. It is employed in many fields of science, manufacturing, and business, as well as its more direct uses for art, film and video production, recreational purposes, hobby, and mass communication. -- Wikipedia

Photo & Display Opportunities

Weekly Challenge: When there is no guest speaker, we will have a challenge for our members which will be announced in advance. You are allowed eight (8) photos only, so take your best shot ☺. All photos must reflect your interpretation of the announced challenge.

Monthly Challenge (Formerly Homework Assignment): This is the program where we submit up to three (3) photos for display in the club’s display cabinet across from the Rec 1 Theatre. Here the residents are encouraged to vote for their favorites and the winners are announced monthly. Gold Stars awarded just for participating!

Photo Shoots: Our photo shoot chairpersons arrange an outing which includes a photo shoot opportunity and lunch to follow. Food, Fotos, Friends, Fun – how could you possibly go wrong?

Scavenger Hunt: This one’s just for fun. Each year you will be given 10 items to find and shoot. We will show all contributions at a January meeting. Use your imagination and find as many as you can!

Theme/Theme Contest: This is an annual judged contest with a unique format. Think of a filing cabinet, then open the drawer and select a folder. The filing cabinet is the assigned theme, the folder is your entry. Inside that folder are five (5) photos reflecting your interpretation of the theme.

Fall Art Show: Sponsored by the Leisure World Photography Club. Submit up to six (6) photos in 10 categories and see what you win!

Spring Art Show: Sponsored by the Leisure World Art Association. Submit up to five (5) photos.

LW Foundation Exhibit: Once a year the LWPC joins the LW Foundation at one of their educational lectures and display our work on an agreed topic. This is a non-judged event.
